The Doomsday Clock is set every year by the Bulletin’s Science and Security Board in consultation with its Board of Sponsors, which includes nine Nobel laureates. “With the constant threat of nuclear annihilation, with the stability of the world’s economic systems being drained by world-wide armament, with the accelerating destruction of the environment, and with the constant barrage of propaganda devoted to violence, the next World War will become a reality for mankind when the pain and fear of uncertainty exceeds man’s ability to reason.”
- Environmental Collapse: Callison discusses the Holocene extinction, which is primarily driven by human activities such as pollution, deforestation, and climate change. These factors contribute to the ticking of the Doomsday Clock.

“We must also relinquish our fear of Peace. The greater good is ours for the asking. There is an alternate reality for humanity. It may be nebulous and presently exist in the Ether, but it can be seen.”
“What is certain is that the longer humanity delays and resists the unification of its species, the greater the cost, the greater the suffering, and the greater the chance of failure. What is also certain is that should humanity continue down the road it is currently on, the cost to humanity will ultimately be greater than the effort, risk, and suffering that man’s birth will be.”
